The Treaty
The 1763 Treaty of Paris was signed on February 10, 1763. Leaders of the countries Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal agreed to end the Seven Years' War. Austria and Prussia signed a separate treaty.
European citizens immediately noticed the long-awaited peace. However, the only effect instantly noticed in North America was the ceasing of battle. Detailed news of the treaty did not reach North America until August 1763 due to the slow methods of transportation and few news resources (Calloway, 2006). Citizens continued their everyday life as usual. The result of new leaders on the people was slow to emerge (Cave, 2004). An English translation of the treaty is available online at Yale University. |
